First Voice Urban Indigenous Coalition’s mandate is to advance truth and reconciliation, and is based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The coalition brings together Indigenous Peoples, service providers, and all levels of government to make a real difference on the community level.
The launch of First Voice’s website in 2023 sought to create a platform that would keep the community informed and updated on the progress of all 42 Calls for Change. These Calls for Change were developed through their work of promoting and supporting local implementation of the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), the Calls for Justice of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
The website was designed and built with these Calls for Change as the centerpiece. With such a large amount of text it was important to make each Call for Change easily and equally accessible to the community at a glance. We developed a digital beading pattern to highlight progress. Each bead has a micro-interaction hover state that gives further information to the specific call.
This digital presence allows First Voice to keep the community informed on progress, while holding change-makers accountable in visually measurable and digitally accessible ways.
