AARP Livability Index

AARP Livable Communities works to help communities be great places to live for people of all ages. Forum One has been working with AARP Livable Communities since 2018 to plan and implement enhancements to many of its websites and digital data products, delivering services spanning digital and data strategy, user experience and visual design, data visualization and mapping, and technical architecture, development, upgrade, and enhancement.

In 2022, we launched a new, redesigned Livability Index website and data explorer. The Livability Index scores neighborhoods and communities across the U.S. and presents detailed data from more than 50 sources on 61 key factors that most affect their residents’ lives, including housing, neighborhood amenities and conveniences, transportation, environment, health, opportunities for civic engagement, and inclusiveness. This is a ground-breaking web-based tool built using JavaScript technologies that presents the clearest picture yet of how well a community meets the current and future needs of people of all ages, incomes, ethnicities, and abilities. The new website also applies insights from usability testing to improve the experience of exploring community data to help individuals and families decide where to live, and exploring data to help community leaders and policymakers serve more of their residents.
