ZipString, a mesmerizing toy invented by college students Stephen Fazio and Austin Hillam, captivated the world by floating a loop of string in mid-air and offering endless tricks and stunts. Despite early success through viral campaigns, including a Kickstarter and an appearance on Shark Tank, the brand struggled to maximize its presence on TikTok—a critical platform for visual and trend-driven products. Although ZipString had amassed a loyal customer base and over 200 million social media views, its TikTok content and affiliate shop underperformed, leaving sales and engagement opportunities untapped.
Facing these challenges, ZipString partnered with Hawke Media to redefine its TikTok marketing strategy and activate its full viral potential. The core objective was to transform TikTok into a growth engine by revitalizing content creation, boosting engagement, and expanding their affiliate marketing efforts.
Hawke Media developed and executed a comprehensive strategy centered around four key pillars. Engaging content creation showcased ZipString's mesmerizing features through trend-driven short-form videos, aligning with popular TikTok challenges and formats to increase visibility. The affiliate program was revamped by partnering with top TikTok creators in relevant niches, providing creative assets, product samples, and performance-based incentives. Community engagement was fostered through active interaction with comments, reposting user-generated content, and creating shareable moments that strengthened ZipString’s presence. Additionally, continuous analysis of performance metrics allowed for real-time optimization of content and campaign strategies to maximize reach and conversions.
The results were extraordinary. Within a month, Hawke Media increased ZipString’s TikTok reach by 2,020% and views by 1,080%. The TikTok affiliate network grew from 1,292 to 4,517 active affiliates, leading to a 628% increase in affiliate sales. Additionally, TikTok conversions surged by 265%, thanks to optimized content and promotional campaigns that introduced urgency through exclusive bundles and discounts.
This project demonstrated the power of tailored strategies to harness TikTok’s viral potential, solidifying ZipString's status as a must-have gadget and driving remarkable business growth.
