Interview with Boyeon Kim, esterika97@gmail.com, Vega Digital Awards Winner

1 Congratulations on your achievements in the Vega Digital Awards! Could you start by introducing yourself or your agency? Can you also share a bit about your journey into your current industry?

Hi, I’m Claire Kim. I’m currently a Digital Marketing Designer at Bolster AI, a cybersecurity firm based in Santa Clara. Although my background is in UI/UX design from the Academy of Art University, my current role requires me to wear many hats—handling nearly every design touchpoint except the product itself. To me, marketing and UX aren’t separate worlds. I bring a UX mindset to everything I create, whether it’s a website, an infographic, or event branding. My goal is always the same: to analyze audience behavior and solve challenges through clear, intentional, and meaningful design.

2 What inspired you to submit your work for this competition, and what does winning mean to you personally and professionally?

As the sole designer on my team, I felt a strong need for an outside perspective—a way to challenge myself beyond my daily environment. Entering this competition was a step outside my comfort zone, allowing me to see how my work measures up against global standards. Winning this award is deeply meaningful to me. On a personal level, it’s a powerful reminder that I’m growing in the right direction. Professionally, it has given me the confidence and credibility to continue pushing my creative boundaries and refining my craft.

3 Can you share the story behind your success? What inspired its creation, and what do you feel it represents in today’s industry?

I certainly can’t take all the credit—it was truly a team effort. Our small team of four worked closely together to define the messaging and clarify the “why” behind the project. My role was to translate those larger ideas into a strong visual voice, ensuring they were communicated clearly and effectively. We spent significant time discussing how to simplify the “noise” without losing substance. I believe the final result demonstrates the power of a shared vision. In a world where information moves so quickly, design must be about more than aesthetics—it should make ideas understandable and accessible to everyone.

4 What do you believe set your project apart in such a competitive field? Were there specific elements or strategies that made it shine?

The visuals were only half the story—the true differentiator was the strategy. By analyzing our competitors and identifying gaps in the market, we transformed those insights into a distinct visual advantage. Beyond the research, brand alignment was my top priority. Every element was intentionally selected to ensure a cohesive experience across all touchpoints. I don’t view design as merely an aesthetic exercise—it is a strategic tool. This project exemplifies how research-driven design can lead to more meaningful and effective communication.

5 Every project has its challenges. Can you share a significant obstacle you faced during this process and how you overcame it?

The biggest challenge was maintaining clarity within a product defined by complexity. With multiple modules to showcase, I needed to ensure the information remained accessible rather than overwhelming. I addressed this through strategic prioritization and continuous iteration with my team, refining the information hierarchy until the design felt intuitive and seamless.

6 Winning an award of this caliber often brings recognition. What do you hope this achievement will mean for your career, your team, or your agency in the long run? Have you already noticed any changes or opportunities arising from this recognition?

I view this recognition as a major milestone—not only for my personal growth but also for the collective spirit of my team. On a personal level, it serves as powerful validation that fuels my drive to continue refining my craft. Beyond the award itself, I look forward to the opportunities it may open and the impactful projects it could lead to. The increased visibility has already been an incredible motivator, encouraging me to approach future challenges with greater confidence and a broader perspective.

7 What has the reaction been from clients, audiences, or stakeholders about your winning entry? Any feedback or memorable moments that stand out?

My colleagues have been incredibly supportive, and their reactions truly mean a great deal to me. At the end of the day, this isn’t just my achievement—it’s a shared success. It’s deeply rewarding to see our teamwork recognized on such a meaningful level.

8 For those aspiring to achieve similar success, what advice would you offer to help them not only thrive in their industries but also craft compelling, award-worthy entries? Are there specific practices, mindsets, or strategies you believe are key?

I believe award-worthy entries aren’t just visually appealing; they are strategic solutions to complex problems. My advice would be: don’t be afraid of critique—embrace it as a tool for refinement. Share your process, learn from gaps in the market, and always stay grounded in your brand’s core message. When creativity is fueled by data-driven strategy and a willingness to grow, you don’t just thrive in the industry—you help lead it.

9 The digital industry is constantly evolving. How do you view these changes, and where do you hope to position yourself in the future?

I take a balanced view of the digital industry’s rapid evolution. Change is inevitable, and with the rise of AI, that pace has only accelerated. For me, the focus isn’t on resisting or blindly relying on these tools, but on learning how to use them thoughtfully and responsibly. My goal is to remain adaptable—leveraging new technologies to drive efficiency and innovation while keeping my creative and strategic foundations strong. I want to evolve alongside the industry, ensuring that even as tools change, human-centered design and meaningful communication remain at the core of my work.

10 Entering awards can be daunting for many, especially those just starting out. What would you say to individuals who have limited experience, or are hesitant to showcase their work in competitions? How can they build confidence and see the value in participating?

I would say, if I can do it, you can too. Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment or let the fear of rejection hold you back. The act of participating is what truly builds confidence and pushes you to grow.

11 Innovation thrives on connection. What message would you like to share with fellow digital thinkers, marketers, and industry professionals?

Stay open, stay curious, and continue sharing your work and ideas. Meaningful innovation often emerges from collaboration, honest feedback, and a willingness to learn from one another rather than working in isolation.

12 Winning is a team effort in many cases. Is there someone or a group of people you’d like to dedicate this achievement to, and why?

I would dedicate this achievement to my team—Lauren, Katie, and Reuven. Their collaboration, ideas, and continuous support played a crucial role in shaping the project’s direction, and this recognition truly feels like a shared success rather than an individual accomplishment.

13 If you could describe your award-winning entry in one sentence, what would it be and why?

A company website focused on clarity and user experience, transforming layered information into intuitive visual communication.

14 Finally, what’s next for you? Any exciting projects or upcoming goals that you’d like to share with us and the audience?

I plan to continue designing and pushing my creative boundaries as I explore the direction I want to grow in professionally. I’m excited to keep learning, take on new challenges, and discover how I can make a more meaningful impact through my work.
