The Dark Pictures Anthology is one of Supermassive’s most enduring franchises, and four years after the last instalment, they wanted to launch season two with a bang. While previous titles had offered fresh twists on historical horrors, Directive 8020 took the series into the future and into space. Having already enjoyed a decade-long relationship with Supermassive, launching titles like Man Of Medan and Little Hope, we started working with the game and marketing teams early to craft the perfect campaign, from announcement all the way through to launch. A year after our Announcement Trailer, this Story Reveal Trailer aimed to bring new and existing audiences into this world - to tease enough of the story and style to hook them in without revealing too much. Packed with fresh cinematics and gameplay, as well as a striking piece of music covering Billie Holiday’s iconic All of Me, it was incredibly impactful. Here we took fans closer to the action, broadening the scope of the story more and showing what they could expect from the game’s environments, characters and monsters. Our vision for this Story Reveal Trailer focused on what we felt makes these games unique - the truly cinematic approach and the power of narrative choice. Players have the chance to truly shape the story around them, deciding who lives and who dies. However, what might seem a good choice in the short term might come back to haunt them later. Directive 8020 offered more choice than ever before, and more nuance between the characters’ relationships, which too can affect the action.
