Groovy is a mobile platform designed to support aspiring dancers in discovering, booking, and tracking dance classes—while building consistent motivation and meaningful community.
Dance offers powerful benefits for both physical and mental wellness, but many beginners struggle to find the right classes or stay motivated over time. Fragmented studio information, lack of personalization, and limited peer support often lead to frustration or dropout. As both a dancer and designer, I set out to solve this gap through Groovy.
The app begins with a short personalization quiz that captures the user’s favorite dance styles, songs, and artists. This input powers a custom feed of class and studio recommendations, using filters like skill level, music preference, time, and location. Groovy also includes a fully integrated scheduling and pass management system—helping users avoid missed sessions or expired credits.
Beyond logistics, Groovy addresses the deeper challenge of motivation. Users can earn achievement badges for completing sessions and participating in community activities. These badges—AI-generated to reflect a vibrant, stylized 3D aesthetic—are displayed on the user profile alongside progress stats, reviews, and redeemed rewards. This gamification layer makes dance progress feel tangible, boosting confidence and habit-building.
Community is also core to Groovy’s experience. A built-in social feed and forum let users share class tips, encourage others, and celebrate progress together—fostering a sense of belonging and peer support often missing in solo fitness journeys.
From research and ideation to wireframing, UI design, and user testing, I led the end-to-end process. The result is a scalable, accessible system that not only helps dancers find the right classes, but also empowers them to grow, stay consistent, and connect through movement.
Groovy isn’t just a booking tool—it’s a wellness partner that helps people move, express, and thrive through dance.
