You don't just check TikTok; you watch it. Many brands today use TikTok to maximize exposure. Since people watch TikTok, you need to be unique, attention-grabbing, and/or funny. This is how Space Sheep Media Lab Inc. conceptualized Gatsby Oil Clear’s videos. The key to winning viewers' hearts is through their sense of humor, providing hearty laughs throughout the video.
Following the idea that Filipinos love funny scenarios, the Oil Clear videos were conceptualized by mirroring real-life situations through skit-type content. This makes the brand authentic, presenting problems with an accessible solution.
The produced videos indeed capture the tiny bits of life, but they are undeniably real, depicting scenarios that people experience daily. Accompanied by a voiceover of the actors and a little song at the end credits, the outcome of the first video was similar to how sitcoms are made on Philippine television; except this time around, it is tailor-made for TikTok and the brand’s target audience. The humorous and real-life approach in the first video garnered laughs and engagement from the audience, reflecting its effectiveness.
Apart from humor, the team also took the opportunity to reflect the culture in the videos. Customs and traditions were included, a telling factor that these types of stories are also possible on TikTok. The team also opened a discourse for the LGBTQIA+ community through the series. While it is important for us to value customs and traditions, the world is ever-changing, and we need to keep up with the changes that come along with it, including perceptions about things such as love.
Through the strategic combination of data-driven conceptualization and execution, this became a win for the team and the brand — all brought together by creative storytelling.
