And when it comes to setting the temperature, things are no different. A 2023 survey by BC Hydro found that over a quarter of couples reported regularly having “energy-related disagreements”—mostly around temperature control.
We ran with this insight to produce a lighthearted radio spot that positions smart thermostats as the perfect solution to the power struggles at home. The spot opens with a chorus of relatable family bickering regarding the temperature: “It’s so cold in here”, “You’re blocking the fan”, “It’s a sauna in here!”. Just as the commotion reaches its climax, the features of a smart thermostat are showcased by a calming narrator’s voice.
This comedic take on family discord is an effective way to show that when things at home get heated, there’s a cool solution. Offered as part of an Enbridge Gas conservation program, a rebate on wifi-enabled devices is a proven way to help families reduce energy use. By learning your preferences and automatically adjusting the temperature over the course of the day, a smart thermostat can help the whole family stay comfortable while saving. Anytime, anywhere.
