For our client South East Games and their flagship game “Paint the Town Red”, we wanted to help bring more people to the title as well as keep the game’s community engaged by conceptualizing and creating map maker contests in activating the community to help create user made content for the game and thus increasing it’s longevity.

With the client having moved on to their future project, our task was to maintain the community of “Paint the Town Red” and make the fanbase happy because at the same time - no new development updates are happening. We needed to entertain the customer base but encourage user-generated content via the in-game modding tools. The biggest content for this title comes from new maps and levels, so what we did was host different map-making contests for players to create different maps and levels for other players to download and play for an endless amount of content. There has been over 10,000 user-created content to date.

To accomplish this, we not only highlighted the best-created content for every player to check out and entertain themself with, but we also posted various events and competitions with low-budget prizes where they create high-quality maps and levels for a chance to win a prize. There were also maps and levels of different popular video games such as “Doom”, “Battlefield 1” and “Shadow Warrior 2”, and many others. Since the success of its first iteration, we have carried out more than 15 thematic challenges, and all are very well endorsed by the community in keeping everyone coming back to the game. In the last two contest maps alone, more than 30,000 people were visiting the maps created by participating players and the community membership has been growing consistently by over 400 on their Discord server alone over a period of 2 months.
