Kapitol Group is a Melbourne-based construction company with $300 million worth of educational, residential, commercial and technology projects under construction. The company is a relatively new player in the Australian construction scene but has grown exponentially since it was founded in March 2018. The challenge from a digital perspective was that its website had not kept pace with the evolution of the company itself. Kapitol approached Luminary to help it create a website that would properly represent the calibre and scale of its growing portfolio of work. The new website needed to reflect how Kapitol had changed, and the size of projects it was now undertaking.
Luminary conducted a range of workshops, desktop research and user interviews to ascertain who the site’s main users were and how they interacted with the site. A key aspect of this work was the development of user personas which were used throughout the project to underpin a customer-first approach. Persona workshops allowed Luminary to gain a deeper understanding of Kapitol Group’s audiences, needs and pain points, which were then used to shape the user journey.
From a user experience perspective, one of the highlights is the services carousel on the ‘Our capabilities’ page. Kapitol Group really wanted to highlight its offerings in a way that would stand out from the competition. So instead of producing a standard list, Luminary created an interactive carousel usable on all screen sizes that was easy to navigate, visually accessible, and interesting.
Another unique feature is the use of tiles throughout the site that animate in an interesting way when the user hovers over them. In addition, tiles have been used as a fun graphic element to create more flow and direction to each page. This element has been used in various parts of the site, including in headers, at the top/bottom of components, and scattered in the background to ground the composition.
