Selenian War is an innovative experimental third-person shooter that pushes genre boundaries by seamlessly integrating roguelite progression mechanics with the high-octane, horde-survival intensity inspired by Vampire Survivors. Set in the year 2187 on the war-ravaged lunar colony of Selenis, the game plunges players into a gripping narrative: as a test subject of the Orion Project clad in a “Reality Anchoring” suit, you are tasked with uncovering the harrowing truth behind the catastrophic “Lunar Detonation.” This disaster, sparked by a failed terraforming initiative, tore open dimensional rifts and spawned chaotic energy entities known as Selenites—against whom conventional weapons are powerless.
At its core lies a dynamic, highly replayable gameplay loop that merges structured shooter combat with randomized roguelite upgrades. Each run delivers a unique blend of weapons, abilities, and enemy encounters, ensuring no two playthroughs are the same. Technical highlights include a flexible weapon-switching system (left-click triggers simultaneous fire from all equipped arms) for instant adaptation to evolving hordes, procedural enemy AI that shifts behaviors based on player actions and environment, and the unpredictable “Upgrade Child” power-up trees that force strategic choices shaping each playthrough’s feel. The progression system masterfully balances short-term combat rewards with long-term narrative revelation: players accumulate lunar energy to unlock both combat enhancements and story fragments, deepening their investment in the world.
Visually, the game boasts a gritty, atmospheric aesthetic that brings the desolate lunar landscape to life, with stark lighting and dynamic weather effects amplifying the sense of isolation and urgency. The UI design prioritizes clarity under pressure, featuring minimal, intuitive overlays that keep focus on the chaotic action. Overcoming key design challenges—reconciling the loop-based gameplay with a linear narrative and aligning in-match skill progression with the story’s growth curve—we drew inspiration from Hades, accelerating narrative pace to keep players engaged. This demo showcases the game’s innovative core loop, technical finesse, and thematic depth, merging genre traditions to deliver a shooter that is both familiar and refreshingly original.
